Personnel Committee

A Personnel Committee was formed this year to investigate, recommend and obtain approval for the position of Parish Administrator for The Church of the Holy Spirit. The original members of the committee include present Wardens and former Wardens, Sandy Marshall, Phil Suraci, Rick Paris, and a member of the Finance Committee, all assisted by Celia Calhoun (our current Office Manager).

The committee completed the first phase of their work and the approved Parish Administrator position will be advertised in January of 2014. The Personnel Committee is now prepared to review the applicants’ resumes when they apply for the position and then forward qualified candidates to Fr. Adam and the Wardens for their final selection. As the committee completed this work in coordination with Fr. Adam, it became apparent that a full-time Personnel Committee is required at our church.

We’re now working on documenting the duties and responsibilities of the Personnel Committee for vestry approval. Although not complete, the basic outline of the committee follows: The Personnel Committee will consists of six members, ex officio members: a Warden, and a vestry member appointed by the Rector.

The committee is responsible for the following: (1) Serve as an advisor to the Rector in employment–related matters, including hiring and personnel administration, interpretation of personnel policies and practices (2) Periodic review of church policies and practices, including the personnel handbook and recommendation to the Vestry for changes as appropriate; (3) Periodic review of compensation and benefits for lay staff including adjustments to the Vestry as appropriate; (4) development of job descriptions for lay staff; and (5) Other matters that may be delegated by the Wardens and/or Vestry. As the scope of the committee increased, Rick Paris recently assumed the position as Co-Chair of the committee. As we continue our investigation and implementation of certain practices the committee will be looking for additional members. The committee will meet monthly but no less than one meeting per quarter. If the duties and responsibilities of the committee interest you please contact any member of the committee.
