Church school

Church school at CHS is a thriving enterprise. We continue to welcome new families all the time to our classes, which span age groups from kindergarten through high school.

Classes for high school and middle school follow the Episcopal lectionary as a means of becoming more familiar with the Bible, build relationships with each other, and come to know the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Children are tightly woven into the fabric of parish worship and life. On the first Sunday of every month, the middle and high school students serve as acolytes and help prepare breakfast for the parish. The youth group, acolyte program, junior choir, and church school continue to work closely with one another to present a closely integrated youth program.

We use the acclaimed Godly Play curriculum in our kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms. This interactive and deeply creative approach encourages children to enter into the various Bible stories of the day and relate them to their personal experience. Godly Play teaches children through the art of play using religious language, parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action.

The preschool story hour is run entirely by volunteers from the parish. These volunteers read a biblical, seasonal, or spiritually based story to the children, followed by a small craft project and a snack.

Nursery care is provided every Sunday, and sunday school continues through the summer in a more casual format. Church school events throughout the year include advent wreath making, gingerbread house making and pizza party, the Christmas Eve pageant, pancake supper, Walking the Way of the Cross Lenten service followed by supper, and the annual Easter egg hunt.
